In it's second year, the Boston GuitarFest Academy program is an intensive prep course specifically constructed to help serious guitar students ages 16-20 prepare for musical life as a guitarist. Get the NEC college experience!

Participants will receive:

  • 2 extra days of tailored instruction
  • Masterclass with Leo Brouwer,Joaquin Clerch, and Eliot Fisk*
  • Lessons and mentoring from BGA faculty Bruce Holzman, Jerome Mouffe, Zaira Meneses, Grisha Goryachev, and Adam Levin.
  • Guitar Ensembles, with private coachings and a final performance opportunity on Sunday, July 2
  • Close study with guest artists as well as a lesson with Institute Festival Performing Faculty.
  • Full access to all Institute Program events, as well as GuitarFest concerts.

* Lesson placement based on preference, faculty availability, and audition videos

Note: Starting June 2018, NEC's new Residence Hall will be available for all summer program participants ages 14 years and older to stay in!


 

Boston GuitarFest is pleased to present the second ever Academy Competition for guitarists enrolled in the Academy Program. Contestants must be enrolled in the Boston GuitarFest Academy Program, and can register for free. All Academy participants are encouraged to enroll in the two-day competition.

Cash prizes are provided to winners of the competition, including a first prize of $750 and a solo performance in GuitarFest 2019.

* Participants who take part in the competition are not allowed to have lessons with competition judges while they are in the running.

REGISTRATION

All levels are welcome to apply! Admission is on a first-come, first served basis. Early registration is recommended. Registration includes all festival events, concerts, private lessons, and masterclasses during the days valid for the type of registration purchased. Groupings of small guitar ensembles will be based on experience or request.Click the buttons below to register.

** 14 and 15 year old high school students interested in registering for The Academy can be considered by sending a music resume to Hank Mou at hank.mou@necmusic.edu.


Younger students who would like to participate in an older age-level program can submit a music resume listing experience in classical guitar. High school juniors and seniors are encouraged to submit music resumes for proper placement in the Festival.

Scholarships: Limited need-based financial aid may be available for participants facing financial limitations that would otherwise prevent them from enrolling. For more information, e-mail hank.mou@necmusic.edu.

Registration & Housing Refund Policy:

  • Full refund (less $150 non-refundable deposit) if withdrawn more than 90 days before program begins
  • 75% refund (less $150 non-refundable deposit) if withdrawn 90-61 days before program begins
  • 50% refund (less $150 non-refundable deposit) if withdrawn 60-46 days before program begins
  • 25% refund (less $150 non-refundable deposit) if withdrawn 45-31 days before program begins
  • No refund if withdrawn 30 days of fewer before program begins
